Subject:
Larger Roughing Gouge

Do you use larger roughing gouges...larger than the 3/4" that is in typical sets? I have a number of larger blocks to work on. Maybe I'm just too impatient, but it seems like a larger roughing gouge would save me time and effort. Am I wrong?

I have found several brands of roughing gouges in the 1 1/4" - 2" range, with prices all over the place. If you use them, what do you consider the best "bang for the buck?" If I purchase one, I want to buy the right thing the first time, but knowing I am not a pro who will use it repeatedly every day.
