>Hi and thanks in advance for sharing your expertise. This afternoon, I was hollowing a section of green olive that the north winds blew down on wednesday. It caught and flew from the nova chuck giving me a bruised and raw knuckle.
I was using a long handled scraper after hollowing the bowl quite a bit with a bowl gouge. I don't think that I had the tool scraping at the right level.
Should a scraper meet the wood above the center line or below? How about a bowl gouge - again, above or below the center? does anyone have a reference that discusses where and how to set the tool rest?
thanks from a learner.
