Help with Accident waiting to Happen?

>Edward posted message about mangling a finger over on the main board. Maybe you should go read it as a warning. It got me to thinking about something I do that is bothering me.

When I cut bowl blanks on my Delta 14" Bandsaw with riser block there is a part that scares me. I just try to hack them down to an octagon or whatever. The problem is that when the blank passes the blade, there is sometimes a moment when the blank lunges forward, making the blade appear to pop out of the kerf. I am trying to be careful, controlling the blank and not allowing it to lunge and keeping my hands out of the "line of Fire", but there must be better ways.

Any Suggestions?
