>Hi All, Because of scallop season here in Maine I have been to busy to do mush turning in the shop or to post on the board. However, with a break in the weather I was able to turn some claves for one of our band members. These are used mostly in latin music and are used to keep the tempo. The sound really cuts through the noise of other instruments. The beater is solid and the sounding clave is drilled and then an opening is sanded down on a belt sander down to the hole in the clave. I used a dremel to clean out the opening.
The beater strikes the clave as it is cupped in the other hand.
Fun to make. Thanks for looking.

They are made from Zebra wood.
