Subject:
chainsaw: repair or buy new?

Ilya Zavorin
>Hi. This message may be a bit off-topic in this forum, but not completely. I have a 1.5hp Paulan electric chainsaw which I have used a lot to prepare bowl blanks. Yesterday I was cutting a blank and felt that it was time for sharpening. And then all of a sudden bluish smoke started coming out of the motor compartment and the saw lost power, although it did not stop completely. It looked like burning oil. I oil my chain manually by pressing a button every 15 secs or so while cutting.

So what do you think happened? Did I somehow flood the motor with oil, or did I simply burn my motor? How hard would it be to fix it myself? DO you think it is cheaper to just buy a new saw? Thanks.
