Wood Guru Help Needed

Ken OakleyWarming Up St. Cloud, Fla.
>A friend of my son in law works for a tree cutting/removal company and knowing I cut various woods into pen blanks for sale on Ebay he contacts me whenever they cut a tree he feels I could use for that purpose. Today my SIL stops and said his friend called and said they had just cut down an Elm tree. Did I want some logs.
Can't remember ever working with or seeing elm. I said OK.
It is very heavy so I assume it is hard. How does it machine, especially turn on a lathe? Any info or advice would be much appreciated. Remember this is Florida so Elm here may differ some from ,say Michigan.
