You wanna see a dye job,huh? *PIC*

>Well, here is my little box, actually not so little, in some silver maple with a half dozen coats of dark red aniline dye. I think the color is very rich and you have to admit the finish is smooth.

The box opens in the middle of the middle set of lines and is 2 3/4" in diameter and 5" tall.

Some things I learned from this experiment. Even though I finished the inside before hand the aniline dye bled through the relatively thinness on the end grain and made a speckled mess of the interior. So I suppose you have to dye it inside and out. The alcohol based dye did not raise the grain but I was able to get a more uniform color by rubbing it out with a white 3M pad and a bit of cheesecloth.

I enjoyed the experiment and I think I will continue to explore this form which is loosely based on a Richard Raffan box although this one is much shorter than his.
