Turning Archive 2008
>Here is the method that i like to use while teaching hollow turning. I drill holes in the sides and spin the lathe at fairly high speed. Do this with sound wood of course. The holes let people see exactly what the tool is doing. It helps if you have video of course. turn the speed up or down until the camera has the best image.
It doesn't have to be 4 big holes. It can be a bunch or smaller holes which makes the turning easier. It also teaches you tool control because the tool cuts extremely rapidly in the void areas.
In this case I'm using the Hunter #1 with my homemade Jamieson boring bar held in an arm brace.
