>This spalted maple vase is the result of that $%!*@* center cone that forms when you try to hollowturn through a small opening. The original was about 3" taller, and I had a 5/8+" in the top. I lost concentration and said all the bad words I know.
I put it aside for a few days until today. Admittedly, I didn't kill myself in sanding and finishing. It stands about 8-9" tall, and about 5" wide. I'm glad I didn't hit is with a baseball bat into the woods, but it really got my goat that day!
The good news is that I still have a whole bunch of this maple, frozen to the ground outside the shop. Maybe next year...
