oneway's answere to ,To-Bolt or NotT- Bolt?

"Bolting it down is best. Adding weight is second best. I am not concerned about the bearings and welds. Would you buy a lathe that was made out of rubber if the bearings would last forever? If you do have an out of balance load on the machine and accidentally run it too fast, bolting it to the floor might prevent the lathe from flipping over."

So it appears that thy do indeed believe that there will be addition stress on the bearings and welds, but they believe the tradeoff is worth it.
