Turning Archive 2007

>Well not really a propeller but it sure has that effect on the lathe. Pictured is a piece of Brown Mallee burl about 18" X 7 1/2". I'm doing a series of double natural edge pieces and this is number 4. Due to the dimensions, when spinning there's much more air than usual which contributes to a fun time turning. After leaving the solid center area one can just see a very faint ghost and of course an equally faint cut line. You can see the piece here turning at about 500 rpm and if you look carefully at the perimeter you can see the edge.
