Subject:
faceplate safety question

Steven Kubien
>Ok, since my incident with the stuck faceplate I have finally decided to get out my Beall spindle tap and make some wooden faceplates. Question is how large/heavy a blank can I put on one? I have some 1-1/2" beech I am planning to use and actually cut a 4" round this evening. Can I put a 50lbs maple bowl blank on it, using decent screws or lag bolts with confidence or am I asking for trouble? Would it be better if I made a larger diameter faceplate?

I drilled and tapped the hole and then thought I had better ask before I do this.

Thanks,
Steve Kubien
