Subject:
To bolt or not to bolt

eliot d
>Everyone( except religious right types) knows that every force has an equal and opposite force. So, if a lathe has something out of balance turning on it, there are all kinds of forces, which can even walk the lathe down the floor. Now, the big question is: do you bolt the lathe to the floor( or , more or less accomplish the same thing with heavy weights) ? Or not? If you bolt it or use heavy weights, then the bearings will have to take the load. If you don't, then it just vibrates or moves a little -- but the bearings are spared. Which do you do?
