Subject:
Finish on bowls *PIC* *PIC*

Stephen Cramp
>Hi all, I've been lurking here for a bit since I got a lathe a couple of weeks ago. I've not turned since Gr8 and that was many, many years ago.

Anyway, I've made five bowls so far and have a question about finish. All of the bowls are made from a plank of cherry I had sitting around. The round one is the first one I made and is done with tung oil I got from Home Depot. The second one I made is the plain square one is also tung oil. The other square one with the jatoba strips is my fifth turning (I did a couple in between out of apple I took from the firewood pile) and is unfinished which is why I'm asking what to use.

Will the cherry darken over time with the tung oil? Is something like walnut oil better? Should I use a vegetable oil?

Thanks for any assistance.

Steve
