Subject:
Making a new tool, need help

TomCollins
>I picked up a Hunter #4 cutter and want to make the shaft to mount it on. I have a piece of 1/2" diameter steel that I need to mill a flat spot on where the Hunter cutter will mount. I have limited metal working skills but most of the usual tools including a drill press and grinder. The surface needs to be flat when completed so the cutter is well supported.

Is there some type of cutter or grinding wheel I could mount in my drill press that would allow me to make a nice flat surface on the steel rod? Is there another way to get a nice flat surface with my limited tools?

Any ideas, sources for cutters etc would be appreciated

Tom
