cleaning pyrography tips

>I was doing a lot of delicate burning last night. The tip always burns much faster with cleaner lines if I clean the tip regularly. How do you all clean yours. I usually just keep a sheet of paper around and drag the tip across the paper occasionally. It's like starting with a freshly sharpened tool. Especially on this project because I was trying to follow some marks put on the wood by rubbing a photo copy with acetone to transfer part of the image to the wood.
