Subject:
Lathe warranties

Robert D. Macgregor
>I'm in long-term shopping mode for when I can afford a lathe upgrade. Although we always expect everything to work flawlessly right out of the box, it is nice to have a good warranty as back-up. I noticed that a lot of (most?) the 16" to 20" lathes have 5-yr warranties, but seem to exclude the motor (eg, Oneway) or have a shorter warranty on the motor(Nova). Of all the lathe component failures that I can imagine, failure of the motor seems about the most expensive, so why exclude, or shorten, coverage of this critical component? (or did I just answer my own question?)
