Subject:
Drop In Power-Jet 1236 lathe-Belt Problem?

George@Colonel's Workshop-Havertown PA
>Good Afternoon Friends,

My best friend was using my Jet 1236 this morning and we noticed it lost power when he put the bowl blank under only moderate load. RPMs would recover immediately with reduced tool pressure. I hadn't experienced this problem before, so I tried it and experienced the same problem. I removed the belt cover and looked at the pulleys. They expand/contract to change diameter, and seemed to perform fine as I went through the speed ranges. However, when we put the lathe tool to the stock, the belt seemed to arc outward as the stock bogged down under tool load. The headstock and drive spin freely and the motor seems okay. I am thinking maybe I need to buy a replacement belt. Have others experienced a similar problem? Any ideas? Thanks.

George
