Norfolk Island Pine question

>I have a hunk of NIP that I roughed down the other day (my second), and I noticed that right under the bark is a very wet slimy cambium tissue that is white and loosely attached.

For you NIP folks, do you turn that away completely or is these some stabilizing process?
