Drilling a long, thick, accurate hole...

>I'm in the process of making a very large boring bar. It's 3/4" x3' long, and I would like to bury about 12" in the handle. I need to be able to do one of the following things:

1.) drill a long hole without the bit wandering
2.) rout a 3/4" semi circle on two pieces of wood
3.) not use wood for a handle- I was thinking blackpipe wrapped with duct tape and a set screw...

Before I go the blackpipe route, anyone have a secret recipe for long accurate holes?

Steven

P.S. The bar is in an oak handle now and it probably wandered by 3/8" along 8" of depth.
