Tonight's Chat: Making Your Own Woodturning Tools

Steve Russell
>Hello to the group,

Please join us tonight for our weekly Turning Chat. This week our topic will be:

Making Your Own Woodturning Tools: Let's face it, one day you may have a need for a specialized turning tool that you can't find from a major tool supplier. For years, many woodturners have made their own hollowing tools, scrapers, skews and miniature tools when they needed a specialized tool, or when they just wanted to save some money. In the last twelve years, I've made several of my own tools (recycled from other materials) for specific applications, or just to try new ideas.

Join us as we discuss ways to make your own tools by using various techniques including forging, reshaping, recycling and repurposing. If you've made a few of your own turning tools, join us and send a few photos to Ron to enhance our discussions. If you're into blacksmithing or metal working, join us to help with some of the technical questions that may be asked by fellow WC folks that are interested in forging tools from scratch.

We will start the chat with a 15 minute review of 2 selected works by our WC friends.
If you are interested in having your work reviewed at the turning chat, remember to email Ron 1 or 2 (max.) photos of some of your recent work (completed or unfinished, in process etc.) for our "Show and Tell" session. Please indicate whether you are submitting the photos as "Completed Work" for a critique, or as an "Assistance Needed" submission that you would like some type of help, or assistance with.

Turning Chat room opens at 9:00pm EDT (For meet and greet)
Show-N-Tell starts at 9:30pm EDT
Main Topic starts at 9:45pm EDT
Post Chat Wrap-Up starts at 10:30pm EDT (For extended discussions if desired)

See you there!
