>I heard and read about different ways to turn off that peak that forms at the bottom of a hollow form. I often reverse the direction of the lathe and approach it from the RIGHT side, i.e. from right to left, using a swan neck turning tool. Works great for me without much risk of flipping around and ruining the piece.
