LOML problem

>If you guys are honest , you'll confess as to whose the boss. The LOML had a fit when I told her I was going out to but this guy's HF metal lathe( he had done numerous modifications on it and was selling it cheap). She was sure it would make a terrible greasy mess combined with metal shavings that would get in all the clothes and that I would track all over the house. ( She also said that the HF was a piece of junk and that if I were going to ruin the house, I should get a real metal lathe!) Is it really messy? I thought the metal shavings, being heavier than air, would more or less stay close to the lathe and that I could just clean up after each session.
