Pen blank questions...Ken Oakley? *PIC*

Gary Evans Tallassee, TN
>Hi all, and especially Ken,

I'm just addressing Ken because I know he has sold some pen blanks on E-bay, but I'd be interested in anyone's opinion.

I am in the process of cutting up some highly figured spalted maple and hackberry scraps into pen-sized blanks, 3/4"x3/4"x5". I haven't gone to E-bay yet to research how folks are selling their blanks, but I seem to remember that selling in lots of 10 or so is common. This wood seems to me to be extraordinary so I'm curious about making sure I get a fair price.

I'm also curious about culling blanks with worm holes. Here is an example. The gullies tend to be about 1/8" or less deep, though some of the holes go deeper. Perhaps an opportunity to add turquoise or other color to the blank? The wood itself is quite solid, by the way.

If nothing else, enjoy the beauty of this wood.
