Subject:
tolerable tolerances?

Mike Hamilton
>I dug out my magnetic base and dial indicator from storage with the intent of checking my new Jet 1642 for spindle runout. Happy-happy, joy-joy. Measured in the race behind the threads of the spindle, I get less than .001 inch swing.
I threw on the Jet 1.25x8 to 1.0x8 reducer I bought a while back at a particularly good sale (knew I'd eventually have the 1642) and measured in the same place. The swing is .006 from high to low. Should I live with this or take it back? I have no clue what is tolerable.
