Subject:
Spalted beech/East Indian rosewood box... *PIC*

Mike Stafford
>Here is an experiment in combining different woods to make a box. The body of the box is spalted beech and as far as spalted wood goes the side grain is rather unremarkable. The lid is turned from East Indian rosewood and it is very dark and the end grain is almost black and featureless when finished. I decided to insert a piece of spalted beech with beautiful figrue in the end grain into the lid. All of the wood was turned in the end grain/spindle orientation so wood movement problems should be minimized. This box is a little less than 2 3/8" in diameter and height. Comments appreciated...
