Classic City Woodturners and the Lyndon House Art Center
A Turning Day with Dick Sing
Saturday Aug. 11th, 10 am - 4 pm
Lyndon House Art Center

A one day woodturning demonstration by the internationally prominent artist and craftsman Dick Sing of Joliet, Illinois.
Dick Sing is a professional wood turner with a long list of accomplishments and an international reputation. Dick has demonstrated and taught across the United States, Australia, and England. He has an extensive knowledge of woodturning, which he is always willing to share. Dick has taught and demonstrated for Craft Supplies USA in Provo, Utah, the Utah Woodturning Symposium, the American Association of Woodturning, John C. Campbell School of Folk Art, and many other woodworking businesses and clubs. He has published nine books on woodturning and has also written articles for Wood Magazine and The American Woodturner. Dick’s work is featured in The Art Of The Woodlathe and Beneath The Bark.
10:00-12:00 Dick Sing will turn examples from his book Useful Beauty: Turning Practical Items on a Wood Lathe. These will likely include bottle stoppers, small flower vases, decorative jar lids and baby rattles.
12:00-1:30 Lunch, bid for Silent Auction items.
Lunch will be provided free for those who pre-register, but will also be available at a cost of $5 for those who have not, for as long as lunches are available. Silent Auction items include turned pieces and turning tools donated by club members.
1:30-3:30 In the afternoon session, Sing has been asked to turn a novel artistic piece that will demonstrate his creative skills and illustrate for the attendees turning techniques with which they may not be familiar.
3:30-4:00 Silent Auction of turned pieces and turning tools contributed by club members, will be concluded. This final activity is intended as a club fundraiser, to defray operating and demonstrator expenses.
Cost - $25. Includes lunch if pre-registered by August 6th.
