Natural Edge Question

>I stopped by a construction site and picked up a few logs out of the burn pile. (It broke my heart to see what was about to be burned.) I took a birch log about 12' diameter and turned a natural edge bowl.

Normally with green wood, I rough turn let dry final turn, and finish. What sequence do you use with a natural edge bowls? I sanded to 400 and figured that I could let it dry and then apply the finish but now the grain is raising so more sanding will be required.

What is the correct turning, sanding, drying, finishing sequence for NE bowls.

Thanks

Steve
