Subject:
Turned Lamp Base

Michael Foster
>Just wondering if anyone has turned a lamp from solid wood and how they accomplished it. My wife would like a pair of lamp on the scale of some broken (and repaired) pottery lamps we now have. They are about 14" diam and 18 in high. My thought is to turn some nice wood, perhaps ambrosia maple, with the pith on center, hollow out from the base to about 1-2" walls to remove the pith. Let this dry, then re-turn it to true it up and make a plug for the base.

I would appreciate any advice from others who have made a lamp, or know of techniques used by others.
