Subject:
mounting heavy blanks

>Hi everybody,

I've just scored some nice, large, green maple logs and want to mount them on my Nova 1624. I only have the 3" faceplate which came with the lathe and I want to rough turn these before I get another faceplate. Do you think it would be safe to bolt the 3" faceplate to some heavy plywood (thinking 2 x 3/4" thick) and then use (a bunch of)lags to attach this new 'faceplate' to the blanks? The blanks are 18" across and 8-9" thick, freshly felled today so they are very wet.

Thanks for your help,
Steve Kubien
P.S. I've got 9 of these suckers to get through. I love tree services!
