Subject:
tool steel

>I just ordered some tool bit stock and some lengths of oil hardened drill rod to make some hollowing tools from Enco . Their prices were fine , but shipping was very high. Does anyone know of a source near Maryland for this kind of stuff? Also, I ordered HSS tool bit stock. Should I have ordered HSS stock with 5% or even 10% cobalt? Now that I think about it, since the tool bit will do the cutting, what's the advantage of hardened drill rod over ordinary mild steel ( that you can pick up at the hardware store) for the shaft of the tool?
