Design questions *PIC*

>I have a coupld of design questions I would like to pose to anyone that feels like stating their opinion.

I turned a lidded box, approximately 1 1/2" tall, lid and all, by 5 1/4" in diameter. The box is catalpa. The walls are 1/8", but the lid is about 3/16" thick with decoration on the inside surface.

My first question is, what would be a decent height for a finial for something such as this? And my second question is, what would be a good wood to use with catalpa?

Suggestions are welcome. I am attaching a crude drawing of what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance.
