Subject:
Maple gone bad *PIC*

>Finally got around to cutting up a section of trunk from a Silver maple my neighbor took down last year. I liberated a couple of larger trunk sections, hoping to use them for lathe practice.

Looks like maybe I waited too long to cut the logs up into turning blanks. The wood is still solid, but has all this discoloration and streaking. I guess it went bad (like that bologna I found in the fridge).

Too bad. Hate to see good wood go bad like this. I was hoping to get a nice platter or maybe a bowl out of some of the larger trunk sections...

Seriously, I just wanted to gloat about the spalting I found when I finally split one of these rounds. Can't wait to try to make something pretty out of it.

Any suggestions for finishes?
Thanks.
