Subject:
Free-Standing Tool Rest

>Hey all,

I was wondering if I could get some help coming up with ideas for a free-standing tool rest. Right now I am turning on an old Shopsmith and I am wanting to do some Shaker style chairs. In order to turn the back legs/back posts I will need to extend the lathe bed. If the lathe bed gets extended, then I cannot use the on-board tool rest.

Does anyone have any suggestions, plans, pictures, etc. of free-standing tool rests that work well.

I would also welcome any suggestions, plans, pictures, etc of extending the length capacity of a Shopsmith lathe. I have several ideas, but the more the better.

Thanks in advnace,
Rob Hix
