>For a strange flying creature.

While I lay half asleep in the wee hours, the wooden egg hatched, leaving a perfectly square opening and not a bit of mess save for a few curls of shavings and some tiny smithereens. My cat must have heard it, as it awoke with a startle and jumped from my bed and down the stairs. I never saw the hatchling, nor can I imagine what it looks like but I think I heard the flutter of wings through the house briefly. I can only hope for it to be a peaceful creature, that does no harm to others on Earth.
The shell is rather thick, about 1/8". It's 4" high, and 3 1/2" across at it's widest.
