Coring Dry Wood

>I have never used my Easy Core on dry wood. I have always cored green wood and grocery sacked it for several months while it warped and dried.
I have come across a 100+yr old walnut timber. It is 9.5" square and 144" long. It is pretty straight.
I usually core using the 10% rule for wall thickness. Can I ignore that rule with this wood?
Are there any special considerations for coring dry wood?
Are there any special considerations for using my Easy Core? Such as heat, or lubrication.

Thanks
