Subject:
Drilling aluminum question

>I have some thick wall aluminum tubes, 1 1/4" od. The wall thickness is about 1/4", so the id is very close to 3/4" (.727 by my measurement). I would like to try making a few tool handles to accept 3/4" shafts, so I need to remove about .022" from the id.

I know very little about workng metal. I do have a 3/4" twist drill but I could use some guidance about how to proceed. I know from prior experiences that aluminum can be "grabby" and I am not sure the twist drill is the right tool to use.

Can someone give me soom advice as to hoe to proceed? Do I need a reamer? If so, what kind?

Thanks
