Subject:
Segmented Bowl *PIC*

Joe Dusel (Vista, CA)
>Last night's meeting presenter (Dan Leaf) at our local woodworking club talked about how he makes segmented bowls. I'm no turner, but this was sure interesting to me. Dan studied with Ray Allen to learn these techniques and he seems to really enjoy making the big stuff.

The guy in the picture is not Dan. He is one of the club members who was nice enough to be in the picture to show the scale of the piece.

This turning has over 3000 pieces in it. It was turned as two sections, finished on the insides, glued together then turned as a unit. The turner, Dan Leaf is about 30. Believe it or not, he did all this in his mom's kitchen and living room on a customized lathe.
