Subject:
Sanding in reverse - Safe?

Jerry Hall
>Recently I read a post about the dangers of turning in reverse, especially with an unsecured fixture. I have also seen lots of comments about sanding in reverse, but never from a safety perspective.

I only reverse the lathe for sanding, and at low speed. Sanding adds little force in the direction of unscrewing the fixture. If it started to come unwound (which it never has) I believe it would be immediately apparent before any harm done. Does this make sense to you?
