John Lucas... Brain pickin' time. :o)

>John, I've ordered a piece of 3/16" drill rod. They say I'll have to temper it once I get it cut to length. I would like to temper it if I can, so it will be harder than my gouges... And I don't know how.
I want to use it as a hardened edge on my toolrests.
Is there a way I can do this at home, or do I need to find someone with a kiln?
Any answers you can give me will surely be appreciated.
