Turning Archive 2007
>While working with a student the other day, he decided he wanted to try a natural edge hollow form in cherry burl,a little to advanced for a beginner,
but his excitement was infectous so I said sure let's go for it.
We had no problems turning the outside, however, I noticed a small crack that didn't seem to create a problem. When we drilled out the center I noticed a lot of gunk on the bit. He started turning off the bark and started hollowing the inside when suddendly......KA BOOM. No one was hurt, but there was a lot of heart bounding.
As a teacher, I learn a lot from my students. But this time I learned very important lesson....expect the unexpected
