Turning Archive 2007
I'm an amateur woodwind builder and I'm enjoying using Mesquite as a wood for instruments. I had made an instrument for a friend out of mesquite and applied a shellac finish to the instrument. It looked great and he's had it for more than a year with no wear problems. However, I made one for myself and soon found out that I have something in my sweat that turns the wood an ugly blackish color.
I need a durable finish that will protect the wood (from me). I've heard of using polyurethane on turned objects. I need something that will keep the wood looking good even after years of constant handling.
