Subject:
dyeing

>So...I've got my elm HF turned, sanded and polished. After polishing (with up to 4000 grit abralon), the surface was beautiful...so smooth it almost doesn't need further finishing.

Monday I dyed it.

But when it dried, the dye (an alcohol based aniline dye) must have raised the grain because now I feel considerable roughness on the surface.

My question: how do I sand or polish this roughness away without sanding off the dye? Or do I just have to re-dye and sand and re-dye and sand until the grain is no longer rough and my colour is intact?
