Subject:
Turning petrified wood.

>I had a client bring me some quarter sawn oak to turn some spindles. I swear he got that stuff from the Petrified Forest National park. I ground off a good 1/4" of my gouge because I sharpened it so many times. Sometimes I would only get two passes across a detail and it would be dull. At first I though it was my gouge so I switched to two others with the same results. It took me all afternoon to turn 6 spindles.
