Subject:
Reverse chucking bowls??

Pat Taylor
>The weak point in my bowl finishing is the bottom/foot. After hollowing, I've been either reverse chucking with a jamb, supported by the tailstock, or parting off above the chuck. Neither method allows free access to the base for a nice finish and shape. I can chisel the bit that was blocked by the tailstock and hand-finish, but I'd like access to the whole bottom while it's on the lathe. So... What do you folks use? Vacuum chuck? Cole jaws? I've read a bunch about it, but I'm curious what you guys do in practice.

Thanks,
Pat
