Subject:
Second Bowl Gouge?

>As I've posted before, I'm a relatively new turner who has garnered a lot of great advice from this forum. I have a mini-lathe that I am turning bowls on - currently I have a 1/2" P&N Bowl gouge, a HD radiused scraper and some smaller scrapers that I use (I use the bowl gouge almost exclusively). As I develop my bowl turning skills I'm wondering what, if any, the next tool purchase should be. I like the look of footed bowls, so I am thinking a smaller 1/4"(?) bowl gouge would allow me to do some finer detail work/embelllishments. Is this a reasonable idea/purchase. Or should I be thinking about another 1/2" or 3/8" gouge with a fingernail style grind? What I use now is pretty close to the factory grind with the wings swept back a little bit .

Thanks,
Eric
