>I guess I would be called a lurker. Have been around since BP days.I have been doing segmented work for five years and have always been concerned about crossgrain glue joints. I try to minimize or prevent having them.I notice on alot of segmented pieces the bottom is a single piece. I started using four pieces for the bottom a couple of years ago.Anyway I recently made a bowl out of Bocote. I did not measure moisture content. First mistake. Made the bottom a solid piece Three inches dia. Second mistake. Put it in a gallery that is extremely dry, in the midwest with no humidifier. The bowl tore itself apart at the bottom. I suspect the moisture content of the wood is primary. What do you guys think?
