OT: Chainsaw

>Got out my Husky 345 today to cut up a small tree in the backyard that is growing directly beneath a larger tree. It is going no where so I need to remove it. Pretty small but I can get a few turnings from it. However, when I tried to remove the chain cover so I could install the chain the cover wouldn't come off. I had the brake lever all the way back but the brake wouldn't release. I finally got the cover pried off without damaging anything. The drum had some corrosion on it, but not bad. I smoothed it down and tried to put the cover back on, but it won't go. The brake band appears to be stuck at its smallest diameter and won't go on over the drum. I tried turning the little cog wheel at the end of the brake band, but it won't move. Has anyone else had this experience or have any ideas?
