Well i finally did it and just had to tell somebody. I have been turning for about 5 years. I started out on a delta midi and then two years ago got the 3520. When I started out on this obsession, I would read on these forums about turning until you could start sanding a piece with 220 grit or whatever and I could never understand how you could do that. My bowls were always rough and torn out and it took a lot of work with the 80 grit to even start with Well today I turned a shallow bowl, 12 inches in dia. and with some carefull shear scraping, I was able to get it smooth enough that the 220 grit was entirely adequate. The wood is ash. Just had to tell somebody. Jared
