Tool Rest Problem

Jim
>I have a Powermatic 3520A. I've used the the stock tool rest and had great success with it. The only problem was that it nicked easily and I was always having to file/sand the edge. It's also too long for most bowl work. A few months ago, I switched to the round bar stock tool rests from Best Wood Tools - both straight and curved. I feel like a beginner again. I have more catches, more torn grain, more vibration and chatter and I'm sanding more. Is it me? What's the overall opinions out there on round tool rests? I'm frustrated after a bad catch today - the piece literally broke in half and barely missed my head. I could sure use some advice.
